Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor 276 pg.

I read Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor.  The class finished this book on November 23, 2010.  This book is about a black family, the Logan's,  and all the troubles that they go through.

I liked the way that Mildred D. Taylor finished the book.  Instead of a happy ending that fixes all the proplems of the story, she makes it sad, but it stills wraps up the story.  In the end T. J. gets hanged, but also in the end the whites and the blacks are working together to stop the fire on the Logan's land.  I think that the author did a good explaining what the times were like back then.

I liked Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry.  I would recommend this book to other people.

Robin Hood, by Paul Creswick 362 pg.

I read Robin Hood, by Paul Creswick.  I finished this book on November 20, 2010.  This book is about Robin Hood and his adventures.

In this book Robin does thing against the law but it seems right.  It reminds me of Grandma in "A Long Way From Chicago" because Grandma would sneak into private property and steal someone else's fish but it seemed right because she would feed hungry people with the fish.  Robin would save Little John (one of Robin's friends) from being hanged and it seamed right.  But Grandma and Robin are also very different.  Robin is a outlaw in medieval times, that lives in the woods.  And Grandma is a kind of ordinary grandma that lives in the 1900's.

I liked this book, because it is a classic adventure story.  I would recommend this book to other people who like these kind of books.

The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, 358 pages

I read the book The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett.  I finished this book on November 15, 2010.  This book is about Mary Lennox and a secret garden that she finds at her uncles mansion.  But the garden is not the only mysterious thing that Mary finds in her uncles house.

In this book the author picks very interesting characters.  For instance Dickson is a lively, animal charmer boy that spends most of his life outside.  But Colin is much different.  He is a boy that lays in bed all day and cry's because he thinks that he is becoming a hunchback like his father.  And Mary was once a sour and selfish little girl, but in the end she is a happy, healthy, and joyful girl.  Even though they are all very different, in the end they are all very good friends.

I really enjoyed reading this The Secret Garden.  Even though it get kind of confusing with all the old English speaking style it was still a good book.  I would definitely recommend this book to other people.

A long Way From Chicago, by Richard Peck Pg. 147

The class read A Long way From Chicago by Richard Peck.  The class finished this book on October 2010.  This book is about Joey and Mary Alice.  Every summer they go to their grandma and each year grandma does something crazy.

Something that surprised me in this book is that the author made grandma  crazy and mysterious.  Usually we think of grandmas as kind, but Richard Peck made grandma different.  Instead of kind, grandma makes sure that people know that she is not to be bothered.  Grandma also doesn't always follow the rules.  For example she sneaks into private property and takes someone else's fish!

I liked this book.  It is funny, and easy to read.  I would recommend this book to other people.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling Pg. 870

I read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling.  I finished this book on September 19, 2010.  This book is about Harry Potter's 5th year at Hogwarts.  In this story Harry and his friends fight Voldemort and win with the help of Dumbledore.

I liked this book because it said a lot about friendship.  For example 5 of Harry's friends went with Harry when he was going to go fight Voldemort.  Even though they were afraid they still went with him.  That must have showed a lot of courage.  I also think that it showed a good moral.  Not that we would have the chance to go with a friend even if it leads to death, but we can show friendship through other things.

I really liked this book.  It is a  adventurous, funny, and mysterious.  I would definitely recommend this book to other people.
